JOHOR BARU - A replica of a Boeing 777-200 aircraft is being built near the Senai International Airport in Kulaijaya as part of the attractions for the Johor Ruler's coronation.
The plane, together with a fountain and landscaping, is being constructed at a roundabout near the airport.
Kulaijaya Municipal Council president Abdul Rahman Salleh said the construction of the aircraft, which started last year, would be completed before the coronation on March 23.
"We are also planning to have a parking lot there for people to stop and take pictures with the aircraft," he said, expressing confidence that the aircraft would be a tourist attraction in the district.
Several other landmarks are also being built not just here but also in the other districts in conjunction with the coronation.
The city is also being spruced up with landscaping.
A distinctive landscape in many districts is replicas of the Ruler's crown, which will be placed on pedestrian bridges and roundabouts.
A replica of the crown which was placed at the entrance of Istana Bukit Serene has attracted a lot of attention since last year.
Meanwhile, state Consumerism, Domestic Trade and Tourism Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Tee Siew Kiong said all these replicas and models would help boost tourism in the state.
Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar will be crowned the fifth Johor Ruler at Istana Besar on March 23, four years after ascending the throne.
His consort, Raja Zarith Sofiah Almarhum Sultan Idris Shah, will be conferred the title of Permaisuri of Johor.
