Sacked maid may be behind abduction

A maid who was sacked six months ago may be involved in the kidnapping of a toddler from his mother's home in Kuala Lumpur's affluent Bangsar suburb last Friday.

The maid was among two suspects arrested on Sunday to assist investigations into the kidnapping of 20-month-old Freddie. He was found abandoned in Taman Tasik Titiwangsa at noon on Saturday.

City police CID chief Senior Assistant Commissioner Ku Chin Wah said the Filipina, aged 39, and her local boyfriend, a 53-year-old plumber and electrician who was with her at the time, were arrested at a rented flat in Taman Desa, reported Malaysia's The Star.

The woman had worked for Freddie's mother, Ms Sarah Joseph, for about a year before stopping work six months ago.

A complaint was lodged with her agency, which later reassigned her to another employer.
