School gym in Malacca invaded by termites
A semi-wooden school school may collapse before the start of the school term next year as termites are eating away everything on the premises.

MALACCA - Termites are infesting a gymnasium in a famous sports school here and state sports officials are looking for a quick fix.

The pests are creating colonies that are causing sizeable damage to the Seri Kota gymnasium in Ayer Leleh and they are still growing despite earlier efforts to destroy them.

"The building is sturdy as it is made of concrete," said State Deputy Health and Sport Development committee chairman Datuk Ng Choon Koon.

"Only the fittings inside were eaten by the termites," he said after visiting the venue with State Sports Council director Ismail Abdol Jalil yesterday.

And it's the safety of the young gymnasts that Ng is concerned about as most of the fittings and some equipment inside the gymnasium were wood-based.
