PETALING JAYA - Schools in Johor and Malacca have been told to close tomorrow (Tuesday) due to the haze.

The Education Ministry said the Air Pollutant Index (API) reading as of 4pm Monday for both states showed very unhealthy levels in some areas.

"Therefore, schools in Johor and Malacca will be closed tomorrow (Tuesday). The state education departments and the district education offices should inform schools and parents on the closure," the ministry said in a statement.

The closure will involve 1,178 schools and 618,326 students in Johor, and 314 schools and 156,635 students in Malacca.

Air quality with API readings of 0-50 is categorised as good, 51-100 (moderate), 101-200 (unhealthy), 201-300 (very unhealthy) and 301 and above (hazardous).
