IPOH - A security guard, along with four of his buddies, was nabbed by police after breaking into a school where he worked.
Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Sum Chang Keong said the five suspects, aged between 17 and 27, were believed to have broken into the school in Silibin here a total of three times over the last two months.
"Based on a tip-off, we managed to arrest the 20-year-old security guard at a house in Taman Silibin at 1.09am on April 29. The first suspect subsequently led us to four other suspects.
"Along with the arrests, police have also managed to recover a backpack bearing the Perak Education Department logo, two pairs of gloves, a screwdriver, two monitors, a keyboard and a computer," ACP Sum told reporters here yesterday.
He said among those arrested included a student and a 24-year-old unemployed man with eight previous convictions for various drug offences and escaping from detention.
"Initial investigations show that the group, known as Hamdan Cina, is also responsible for three other cases of break-ins at sundry shops as well as three cases of car break-in.
"We believe they have been active since the end of last year," added ACP Sum.
