SHAH ALAM - PAS nominated Bukit Antarabangsa assemblyman Azmin Ali as candidate for the Selangor mentri besar's post because it is not comfortable with the idea of Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail leading the state.
Selangor PAS deputy commissioner Sallehin Mukhyi said the decision to nominate Azmin came after the party was informed by the palace that Dr Wan Azizah was not right for the position.
"But if Pakatan Rakyat leaders feel she should be the one and the palace agrees, then we will work with her," Sallehin, who is also a state exco member, told reporters at the lobby of the state secretariat building.
He added that since the Selangor Sultan was away, Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim was the legitimate mentri besar and had the powers to administer the state until then.
"I don't think he (Khalid) should resign now as it will trouble the rakyat.
"Besides, he has already made it clear that he accepts the fact that he has lost the majority support of the assemblymen.
"Let's wait for the Sultan to return," Sallehin said.
The PAS central leadership committee decided at a meeting on Sunday that the party would not support Khalid as the mentri besar.
The party also nominated Azmin as another candidate besides Dr Wan Azizah.
