Sex blogger's mum forfeits $8,000 after Alvin Tan skips bail

KUALA LUMPUR - The mother of sex blogger Alvin Tan Jye Yee told the Sessions Court here that she had no idea of his whereabouts after he failed to return his passport for the third time.

"I miss him," said All Kim Lian, 57, adding that although she had tried to contact her son and even left messages for him, there was no reply.

"I waited for him to return but I can't find him. I am old and I do not know much.

"I hope that the court will not take away my money (the RM20,000 (S$7904.71) bail)," she said before Sessions judge Abdul Rashid Daud here yesterday.

All was responding to questions by DPP Yong Ann Nee on why her bail money should not be forfeited after Tan, 26, failed to show up in court.

To another question by Yong on why she had not lodged a police report, All said: "I cannot simply make a police report, right?"

Another bailor, Loo Ching Ching, 44, said her efforts to contact Tan via telephone and text messages had also been futile.

Yong then submitted that both bailors were close to Tan, adding that it was not possible for All not to know her son's whereabouts.

Later, Abdul Rashid said he was not satisfied with the explanations given by All and Loo for their failure to fulfil bail conditions.

"Both bailors failed to show sufficient cause under Section 404 of the Criminal Procedure Code.

"Therefore, the court will forfeit Tan's RM20,000 bail," Abdul Rashid said.

He also fixed Oct 3 for next mention.

On July 18 last year, Tan and Vivian Lee May Ling, 25, claimed trial to three charges under the Film Censorship Act, Sedition Act and Penal Code.

However, one of the charges, which fell under Section 298A of the Penal Code, was struck out by the Court of Appeal on April 21.
