Single mother's family in dire straits in Perak

A single mother in Bagan Serai, Perak, was forced to pull her seven-year-old daughter out of school after only three weeks because she can't afford it, reported Berita Harian.

Ros Azlina Mohamad Naser, 31, had to end her elder child Nur Damia Syifa Abdullah's schooling because of financial problems.

Unemployed, Ros Azlina not only has to care for her two children but her 80-year-old mother as well. Her only income is her mother's RM350 monthly pension.

"From that sum, RM180 (S$61.70) goes towards the rent and the balance is for essentials. Of course, that too, is not enough to meet our daily needs," she said.

She added that she had already applied for aid from the Islamic Religious Council and Malay Customs Perak Darul Ridzuan (MAIPk) but had yet to receive a reply.
