KUALA LUMPUR - Pasar malam traders and other small business operators have been advised to be extra careful when receiving cash - counterfeit notes are in circulation.
MCA Public Service and Complaints Department head Datuk Seri Michael Chong, who said this, added that syndicates were moving to smaller towns as most businesses in big cities were equipped with UV machines to detect counterfeit notes.
"We believe the main target now are pasar malam traders, vegetables sellers and sundry shop operators," he told reporters yesterday.
Chong said fake notes were much thinner than genuine ones but looked real.
He said a restaurant owner from Kapar had received two RM100 notes which bore the same serial number.
