Snatch theft victim takes down culprit

KUALA LUMPUR - Determined not to let a thief get away with her handbag, an 18-year-old girl bravely gave chase and toppled the man and his motorcycle with a kick that led to his arrest.

Ampang OCPD Asst Comm Khairuldin Saad said the student was travelling home on her motorcycle when she noticed that another motorcyclist was following her at around 9pm on Monday.

"She was not sure how long he had been trailing her but only realised it after reaching a petrol station along Jalan Merdeka in Ampang.

"The man approached her and snatched her handbag, which was tucked between her legs," he said.

ACP Khairuldin said the bag contained the student's identification documents, a mobile phone and RM50 (S$19).

"The victim chased after the suspect and kicked at his motorcycle, causing it to fall. The suspect then tried to run but was caught by passers-by," he explained.

ACP Khairuldin said aside from arresting the 22-year-old suspect, police also confiscated his motorcycle.
