Soldier charged with possession of IS material

MALACCA - An army commando was charged in a magistrate's court here with possession of printed materials with elements of terrorism relating to Islamic State militants.

No plea was recorded from Muhammad Adibzakir Zahri, 28, in the proceeding before magistrate Mohd Asri Abd Rahman Sidik.

Based on the statements of fact, the accused from Simpang Ampat, Kedah, had in his possession printed materials linked to Islamic State of Iraq and Sham.

The accused, who was unrepresented, alle­gedly committed the offence at Sungai Udang police station here at 8.50am on Aug 19.

Earlier, Muhammad Adibzakir appeared calm when the charge was read to him while Deputy Public Prosecutor Norshazwani Ishak asked the court not to offer any bail to the accused.

The court fixed Nov 5 for re-mention to facilitate the transfer of the case to Kuala Lumpur High Court.
