JOHOR BARU - A local songkok maker is offering Johoreans the chance to show their love for their home this Hari Raya - district by district.
Mohd Fahirurazi Yahya's songkok design is based on the flags of the state's 10 districts.
The creations, he said, have attracted both young and old buyers.
The 34-year-old is building on the popularity of his Johor Darul Ta'zim (JDT) football team-inspired songkok last year.
"This time around I wanted to make something different that identifies a Johorean's hometown," he said.
Mohd Fahirurazi, who learnt to make songkok from his father, said to start he had made the caps featuring the Johor Baru, Batu Pahat and Segamat districts.
"I made 200 to test the market and was surprised by the response," he said.
He said the design of the flags was similar except for the colour, which made it easier to translate onto the headgear.
Of the three designs, the most popular was the Segamat songkok, proving that "there are a lot of Segamat people living here".
His next targets are the Kulaijaya and Kota Tinggi flags.
For this Raya, Mohd Fahirurazi and his wife have painstakingly hand-made some 20,000 songkok.
