S'porean horse trainer attacked at home in Malaysia

BANGI - Two parang-wielding men attacked well-known horse trainer Malcolm Thwaites at his home at Bangi, Kajang, on Tuesday.

The 68-year-old Singaporean was slashed repeatedly on the head by the assailants. Thwaites, who suffered deep cuts, managed to escape what was seen as an attempted murder.

The two men ran away when motorists, who saw the incident, honked their cars.

Thwaites needed more than 20 stitches and was hospitalised for two days. He said the attack on him was a personal matter and had nothing to do with horse-racing.

Thwaites has been a champion trainer for six years on the local circuit, producing more than 1,000 winners.
