SUBANG JAYA - An automated teller machine (ATM), believed to be the one carted away from a bank in Putra Heights, has been found abandoned near the south-bound Pedas exit of the North-South Expressway in Negri Sembilan.
Subang Jaya OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Ramli said highway contract workers found the ATM by the roadside at Km239.1 of the expressway at around 6.50am yesterday.
"We believe the ATM is the one that was carted away from Putra Heights.
"Our forensics team brought the machine to the USJ 8 police station for the bank can identify," he said, adding that the ATM had been cracked open and was empty when found.
The machine reportedly contained RM160,000 when thieves carted it away in the 5am incident on Tuesday.
The thieves had tied a rope to the ATM and tugged it out with a van from the bank.
CCTV footage showed two of three suspects at the scene in ski masks and baseball caps, wearing white gloves and either black or red overalls with "ENEOS" printed on the clothing.
They were believed to have hauled the machine into a Toyota Hiace van that carried false registration plates.
A security guard reportedly saw the incident and told police that the suspects left in an accompanying Toyota Hilux pick-up truck.
