Student falls to his death in school hall

KANGAR - A 15-year-old schoolboy died after falling more than 10m from the ceiling of the school hall in Kampung Behor Lateh here.

Form Three student Muhammad Hakimi Zulkefli from SMK Syed Alwi had apparently climbed up the ceiling for reasons only known to him.

OCPD Supt Abdul Rahman Mohd Nordin said the boy died on the spot of multiple head and body injuries following the incident, which occurred at about 11.30am yesterday.

"Our investigations showed that he broke into the school hall via the back door," he said. "The school security guard found the body when he went to the hall to arrange the mats for an afternoon prayer session," he said when met at the Tuanku Fauziah Hospital, adding that the case has been classified as sudden death.

State Education Department Development and Registration Unit chief Yusuff Man described the deceased as a good and disciplined student who had been studying in the school since Form One.

"He was last seen inside a classroom after attending the Physical Education lesson. Whatever happened was beyond the control of the teachers as they cannot be with the students all the time."

State Education Department director Dun Kasa when contacted said he will let the police carry out their investigations and the department will give them its full co-operation.
