Student groups demand freedom for Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR - Representatives from various student organisations gathered here to demand for the freedom of Opposition Leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Led by student activists Adam Adli Abd Halim and Muhammad Safwan Anang, they assembled outside Sogo shopping complex at 4pm yesterday.

They carried banners, chanted and played instruments as they listened to speeches from Lembah Pantai MP Nurul Izzah Anwar and Selangor assembly deputy speaker Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad.

Adam Adli, who also addressed the crowd, said the march would take place every Saturday "until justice is done".

"Next week, we will bring a much larger number of people as we will continue fighting and never surrender," he said.

Police presence was minimal with several traffic policemen directing traffic to ease congestion.

At 6.30pm the group dispersed after making a pledge to keep fighting Anwar's freedom.
