JOHOR BARU - Excitement filled the air as the Johor Ruler Sultan Ibrahim Ibni Almarhum Sultan Iskandar led off his convoy for the 17th edition of the Kembara Mahkota Johor by driving a bus.
This is the first time that Sultan Ibrahim is driving a bus for his annual Kembara Mahkota expedition.
In previous expeditions, the Ruler had travelled around the state by train, boats and motorcycles.
Hundred of people cheered and waved as the convoy started on its journey after it was flagged off by the State Assembly speaker Tan Sri Mohammad Aziz at the Dataran Bandaraya Johor Baru here yesterday morning.
Some members of the royal family, state officials, the Fire and Rescue Department, police and the armed forces also joined the four-day expedition, which will end at Nusajaya on Tuesday.
Themed Healthy Lifestyle this year, the convoy will be travelling some 858km passing through 10 districts across the state.
The programme includes interaction with the people and also providing aid to needy communities.
Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Mohamed Khaled Nordin, who was also present at the event, said the Kembara was also one of the events highlighted in the Visit Malaysia 2014 calendar.
"The expedition is also a good opportunity for the Ruler to see for himself the rapid developments taking place in the state."
