KUALA KANGSAR, Perak - The Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah visited the royal tombs of previous Perak Sultans, including his late father's grave here during a pilgrimage to the royal tombs.
He also visited a memorial stone during the ceremony in conjunction with his enthronement as the 35th Ruler of Perak.
Sultan Nazrin, who was accompanied by Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara, arrived at the memorial stone in honour of Sultan Mansur Shah I, who was the second Sultan of Perak, at Masjid Kota Lama Kanan at about 9am yesterday.
Sultan Nazrin also performed 'solat sunat' at the mosque, and the royal couple was then seen touching the Sultan Mansur Shah I memorial stone.
According to Perak history, Sultan Mansur Shah I had disappeared during Friday prayers at the mosque and was believed by the local residents to have passed away.
Since Sultan Mansur Shah I did not have a tomb, a memorial stone was placed at the mosque in his honour.
The royal couple then visited 10 tombs of the previous Perak Rulers, including the grave of Sultan Nazrin's father Sultan Azlan Muhibbuddin Shah at the Bukit Chandan royal cemetery located beside Masjid Ubudiah.
The Sultan scattered rose petals and poured scented rose water onto the grave and also the grave of his brother Raja Ashman Shah.
Sultan Nazrin and Tuanku Zara were accompanied by their children Raja Azlan Muzzaffar Shah and Raja Nazira Safya Shah. Also present was Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir.
Sultan Nazrin's visit to the royal graves is a time-honoured tradition for new Perak Rulers that is carried out in conjunction with his enthronement ceremony.
On Friday, he visited the tomb of Tok Temong in Kati here and the tomb of Raja Bendahara Alang Iskandar at Kota Baru, Gopeng.
