ALOR SETAR - Kedah Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir has come under fire for failing to categorically state his support for Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak's leadership.
Bukit Lada assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Lebai Sudin said Mukhriz might as well resign his post if he cannot openly state his support for the Prime Minister.
He said since Mukhriz was appointed mentri besar by Najib, he should vacate the post if he could not bring himself to declare his loyalty.
"If he no longer supports the prime minister, it is best for him to resign from the post," he said.
It is understood that Mukhriz had called for a meeting at his official residence involving state Umno leaders, state assemblymen and MPs from Kedah yesterday.
Ahmad Lebai claimed that the meeting was supposed to state their support to the prime minister and party president.
However, he claimed that Mukhriz had taken a position that Kedah Umno will only declare its support to Najib after the 1MDB issue had been cleared, and that until then, he would be on the people's side.
"The 1MDB issue and supporting Najib who are under attack by Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad are two different issue," he said.
"Why is he putting the people and the state in an unstable condition? We are now caught up in a difficult situation," he said.
He said Mukhriz should have stated his stand clearly and immediately after his father Dr Mahathir started criticising the prime minister.
"He should follow his father's foot steps and resign from his post as his father once did during Tunku Abdul Rahman's administration when he did not agree with the leadership," he said.
