PETALING JAYA: Several leaders have voiced support for the Conference of Rulers' stand on the 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB) issue.
Yayasan 1Malaysia chairman Dr Chandra Muzaffar said the counsel of the sultans must be heeded.
"One hopes that those who wield power and influence in Malaysian society will pay close attention to every word from the Rulers," he said.
He said their advice, if followed, would help resolve "some serious challenges pertaining to integrity and honesty in governance".
Selangor Mentri Besar Mohamed Azmin Ali said the entire nation should take seriously the concerns and views of the Rulers.
In particular, the reminder to all leaders to "always adhere to the Rukun Negara principles of upholding the Constitution and rule of law", he said.
He said the reminder was timely because of the issues affecting the nation now, but should also be a guiding light for all time to those who wield executive power.
"There must be transparency in the 1MDB investigations and no concealing of facts," Azmin said.
Failure to resolve the 1MDB issues would see negative impacts continue on the country's financial market and economic climate, he added.
Pokok Sena MP Datuk Mahfuz Omar said the Rulers' statement showed their concern for the rakyat's well-being.
But he felt that the Rulers should take drastic action, looking at how the 1MDB issue has reached a point where the Deputy Prime Minister and the Attorney-General were removed.
