A suspected thief, who ran away as he was being brought by the police to a recycling centre where he allegedly sold his loot, was killed in a road accident 90 minutes after his escape.
Sin Chew Daily reported that the 27-year-old man was suspected to have stolen a lightning arrester from a flat in Petaling Jaya on Wednesday at about 11am and sold it to the centre in Old Klang Road.
Apparently, he was handcuffed and was brought to the recycling centre at about 4pm the same day, but escaped after kicking a chair towards a policeman.
At around 5.30pm, police received a report of a fatal accident at a traffic light junction in Old Klang Road.
When they arrived at the scene, they found out that the victim was their suspect who had fled earlier, the report said.
The man died after he was hit by a motorcycle. The 45-year-old rider was admitted to the hospital with injuries on his left arm.
