BUTTERWORTH - A 35-year-old man believed to be a member of the 04 Gang was shot twice at close range in Jalan Perusahaan Sungai Lokan, Taman Perusahaan Mak Mandin, here.
North Seberang Prai OCPD Asst Comm Abdul Rahman Ibrahim said police arrived at the scene 10 minutes after receiving a call from a member of the public at about 9am yesterday.
He said initial investigations showed that the victim was hit in the neck while another bullet missed him.
"We found the motorcycle believed to have been used by the victim at the scene."
ACP Abdul Rahman said they recovered two bullet casings at the scene and were still looking for the slug, which had missed the victim.
"He was rushed to the Seberang Jaya Hospital for treatment and is in stable condition," he said.
ACP Abdul Rahman said the victim from Taman Covin, Nibong Tebal, had a previous criminal record - a robbery case in Kuala Kangsar and two murder cases in Nibong Tebal and in Kota Damansara.
"We have recorded statements from an eyewitness," he added.
The police have launched an operation to hunt for the gunman, who escaped in a car following the incident.
