JOHOR BARU - A primary school teacher had a lucky escape when his car burst into flames the moment he reached his destination here.

The 38-year-old teacher had just arrived at Sekolah Kebangsaan Larkin 1 yesterday morning when smoke billowed from the engine compartment of his Perodua Kembara.

Johor Baru Fire and Rescue Department second senior officer Mohamad Nazaruddin Ahmad Zainuddin said his department received a distress call at about 6.34am.

"The victim was in the midst of parking his vehicle when he noticed smoke and then fire at the front," he said, adding that the fire was put out around 7.05pm.

He said the department was still investigating the cause of the incident.
