Teen escapes rape attempt in mall

IPOH - A 19-year-old girl saved herself from being raped by kicking and screaming her way out of the situation.

Recalling the incident, victim Lee Vicky said she entered a washroom of a shopping mall on Saturday when a foreign worker manning the toilet told her the toilet was closed for repairs.

"However, he allowed me to use one of the cubicles. As I entered the cubicle, I heard the sound of keys locking the door and the lights being switched off, causing me to rush out."

"When I opened the cubicle door, the suspect rushed in, grabbed me and started kissing me," she said, adding that she put up a fight by kicking the suspect and screaming.

"Luckily for me, someone who heard my screams broke down the door and the suspect ran out of the washroom," she said, adding that the good Samaritan tried to give chase but the suspect managed to escape.

A view of the shopping complex's closed-circuit television (CCTV) recording revealed the suspect was a former worker who stopped working at the complex a week ago.

Lee, who lodged a report at the Sungai Senam police station here the same day, however complained that to date, the investigating officer had yet to take a statement from her.

"We tried calling the officer's number to set an appointment but can't get through to him."
