Tunku Bendahara of Kedah dies at 75

ALOR STAR - Tunku Bendahara of Kedah, Tan Sri Tunku Annuar Sultan Badlishah, the younger brother of Yang di-Pertuan Agong Tuanku Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah, passed away about 12.20am today in Ipoh, Perak. It was learnt that Tunku Annuar, 75, who is also the chairman of Kedah Council of Regency, had suffered a heart attack.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir in his official announcement said the body would be placed at Dewan Penghadapan, Istana Anak Bukit for final respects.

He said the morning session was for royal family and dignitaries while members of the public may pay their last respects to Tunku Annuar between 1am and 3pm.

Mukhriz added that the remains of Tunku Annuar would be laid to rest at the Royal Mausoleum in Langgar here after the Asar prayers, approximately by 5pm.

"All the state, Federal and other flags should be set at half mast for seven days, in honour of the state mourning period. During this period, all entertainment, public gathering and festival will be called off."

"In respect of the passing of Tunku Bendahara of Kedah as the Kedah Council of Regency chairman, today (May 21) is declared as a public holiday for Kedah," he said in his statement aired live by RTM's Kedahfm this morning.

Mukhriz urged Kedahans to extend their prayers on Tunku Bendahara's soul.
