Two foreign students missing at Broga Hill

KAJANG: Two students from the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus were reported missing during a hike at Broga Hill in Semenyih.

The two friends, Kenyan Nyamu Wanyolke, 20, and Briton Katie Clubb, 19 (pics), were reported missing at about 7.50pm on Wednesday.

Kajang OCPD Asst Comm Othman Nayan said a friend of the victims told police that she last received a text message from Katie at 7.46pm.

"We were told that the duo went on a hike earlier that evening. When we were alerted of the incident, we immediately went in search of them.

"At 8.15pm, we arrived and launched the search and rescue operation with the help of the Fire and Rescue Department, Rela and the Civil Defence Department," he said.

ACP Othman said authorities spent almost four hours combing the area but had to stand down at around midnight as the weather turned bad.

"We resumed our operation today at 8am.

"Based on the victim's last contact with their friend, they said they were near a Malaysian flag.

"We suspect they had already reached the top but when we arrived, they were nowhere to be found," he added.

Authorities are checking whether the two were exchange students.

At press time, the search and rescue mission was still ongoing.
