Two killed, mum-to-be critically hurt in 3-car pileup

TELUK INTAN - A pregnant woman is fighting for her life after being involved in a three-car pileup here that killed her husband and mother-in-law.

Housewife Nur Athirah Mohd Rosle, 19, who is five months pregnant, and her family were travelling along Jalan Maharaja in Batu 4 here when a Toyota Vios, travelling in the opposite direction, crashed head-on into their Perodua Kancil.

Her husband Nissamuddin Os­­­man, 26, died on the spot while her mother-in-law Norijah Sitin, 63, died at the Teluk Intan Hospital later.

The couple's 13-year-old niece Syazatul Hasni Syaharuddin, who was travelling with them, was also critically injured in the 10.30pm incident on Saturday.

Hilir Perak OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain said the driver of the Toyota Vios was believed to have lost control of his car while negotiating a bend.

"He ended up driving into the opposite lane and crashed into Nissamuddin's car.

"At the same time, the driver of a Proton Wira travelling behind Nissamuddin's car failed to brake in time and rammed into the back of Nissamuddin's car before crashing at a nearby drain," he said.

The Toyota Vios driver was arrested to assist in investigations.
