Two killed while making Raya rounds in Malaysia

KOTA KINABALU - Two families on their way for Hari Raya visits were involved in a head-on collision that killed two and left six others injured.

Initial police reports indicated that Aras Arlan, driver of the Proton Wira, was driving from Merotai towards Tawau with his three daughters when the accident happened at about 8.47pm on Tuesday.

Aras, 37, was killed together with his five-year-old daughter Nurul Zahirah, who was seated in the passenger seat, said Tawau district police chief Asst Comm Awang Besar Dullah yesterday.

Aras's two other daughters Nurul Fatihah, nine, and Nurul Fiqriyah, seven, are in critical condition, ACP Awang added.

The driver of the Toyota Vigo four-wheel-drive, Ramlah Abd Rahim, 33, and the three passengers with her, Aris Abas, 34, Mohd Aiman, seven, and Mohd Irfan, three, escaped with minor injuries.

They received outpatient treatment at the Tawau district hospital.

ACP Awang said police believe that one of the drivers was overtaking another vehicle when the collision happened.

The bodies of the victims have been sent for post-mortem.
