Two students hurt by gangs of bullies

ALOR SETAR - Mobs of school bullies bashed up two students taking the PMR examinations in separate incidents here and in Malacca.

The police have caught nine Form Three schoolboys over the incident here while a parent-activist group in Malacca is probing if secret society members were involved in the other incident.

A parent of a 15-year-old student reported to the police that nine of his son's classmates had beaten him up at their school in Jalan Putra here on Tuesday.

The boy was injured in the eye. The victim was with six of his friends when the incident happened after they had sat for the PMR examination.

Mechanic Ooi Boon Hao, 33, said he went to his son's school after receiving a call from the victim.

"My son told me that the group followed him and his friends when they were walking to the front gate. They threw stones at them before beating them up.

"After the incident, the students were called up by the school principal who told them to settle the problem amicably," said Ooi.

Kota Setar CID chief Deputy Supt V. Saravanan said police had rounded up the schoolboys after receiving the police report and released them after their statements were recorded as they needed to sit for their PMR.
