BENTONG - Umno vice-president Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal (pic) rubbished rumours that he is part of a plot to topple the government, saying that he is one of Umno's founding members in Sabah.
"I still remember when I started as one of the founding members in Sabah, I faced many challenges. I was even called an 'Umno dog' from the peninsular.
"When my name was mentioned as one of the person to topple the government..nauzubillah..why should I do that?," he said in his opening remarks at the opening of the Bentong Umno division, on Saturday.
Shafie warned the party must take quick action to return the trust and confidence of the rakyat towards the party before the general election.
"If we look at the history, we have lost to the Opposition in Kedah, Perak, Terengganu, Kelantan, Penang and Selangor due to several issues.
"In the upcoming general election, we must be prepared to explain to them about GST, the rising cost of living, 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) issue, increasing petrol cost and much others," he said
Earlier, Pahang Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Adnan Yaakob said some three million Umno members across the country must be able to convince the 13 million Malaysians to support the party in the upcoming general election.
"The party is facing a challenging time. As a political party, we must find ways to win back the rakyat support to win the election," said Adnan, who is also the Bentong Umno division chief.
