Unknown teenager found dead in religious school

KOTA BARU - The body of an unidentified teenager who was found hanging in a bathroom of a religious school in Kok Lanas here on Thursday.

The boy, whose identity is unknown, was not a student at Maahad Tahfiz Sains Nurul Aman.

He was believed to have hung himself several days ago as the body showed sign of decomposition.

The school's hostel supervisor Zul Ati Muhammad, 37, discovered the body at 9.30am Thursday during a routine check at the hostel with the principal Ahmad Pakhrarudin Deraman.

"While we were making our rounds a strong stench was coming out from one of the 10 bathrooms that were locked from the inside.

"We saw the body of a half-naked boy hanging from a beam inside the toilet and we got several students to open the door before alerting the police," Zul Ati told reporters at the scene.

He also said the teenager was not one of the students in the school because almost all the 382 students had returned home during the school holidays,

22 students stayed behind to take up intensive Islamic courses after completing their SPM examinations.

"We do not know who he is and it is a mystery as all the 22 students are accounted for," he added.

Zul also said several students had complained that the door was locked from inside but did not suspect anything.

Meanwhile, Kota Baru OCPD Assistant Comm of Police Azham Othman, when contacted, confirmed the incident, adding that the body was sent to the Raja Perempuan Zainab II hospital for a post-mortem.

"We are still trying to ascertain his identity as no identity card was found on him," he said.
