US outdoor gear maker Osprey Packs axes Singaporean's firm over dog abuse: Report

KUALA LUMPUR - American adventure equipment maker Osprey Packs has dropped a company run by Singaporean Terry Yee as its Malaysia distributor after the 30-year-old was caught on video abusing a dog.

Osprey vice-president for product line and marketing Rob BonDurant told the Malay Mail his company had severed ties with Yee's Tearproof Sdn Bhd over his "reprehensible" behaviour.

"In response to the incident, we are engaged in the process of terminating our relationship with this distributor completely.

"We made this decision because as a brand, we absolutely oppose any act of inhumane violence or neglect against animals," he was quoted by the newspaper as saying in an e-mail.

Earlier this month, Yee was filmed brutally attacking a guard dog with a motorcycle helmet at a residential compound in Puchong, Selangor. The clip went viral, sparking an outrage.

Yee has apologised for his act, saying that he "snapped" after having been "attacked" by the dog many times previously.

The case is under investigation by the Serdang police and the Department of Veterinary Services.

BonDurant told the Malay Mail Osprey would appoint a new Malaysia distributor soon.
