BUKIT MERTAJAM: All essential items for women and babies should be zero-rated under the Goods and Services Tax (GST), said PKR candidate Datuk Seri Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail.
"Doctors' consultation fees, medicines and vitamins for children should not have GST. Baby formula and hygiene products for babies such as diapers, wet tissue, lotions and shampoo must also be exempted.
"Women and children will be my priority if I win the Permatang Pauh seat on May 7," she said after launching the Don't Tax Our Children (Jangan Cukai Anak Kita) campaign in Penanti yesterday.
Dr Wan Azizah said a family with three children needs to spend an average of RM120 (S$45) per month just for GST.
"This is a burden to a middle-income family."
