A woman who took shelter at the Women Aid Organsation (WAO) was abused by her husband for 23 years since their first day of marriage, Sin Chew Daily reported.
The daily quoted a case published in a report launched by the group recently.
The woman, known only as V, was said to be physically, mentally, sexually, financially and socially abused by her husband.
Although she had lodged seven police reports within a seven-year period, the cases were only investigated after she was admitted to the hospital several times.
Her husband was found guilty and jailed for six months.
But her story did not end there. Two years after being released from jail, the husband used a knife to hurt her, and she was admitted to the hospital.
The husband finally received the maximum punishment of a 36-month jail under Section 324 of the Penal Code for causing hurt.
The police statistics revealed 4,807 domestic violence cases reported in 2014, compared to 3,053 cases in 2013.
