Woman uses silat against knife-wielding husband

Knowing silat saved the life of a woman after her husband tried to attack her with a parang, reported Berita Harian.

The woman had picked up the martial art just a few weeks ago to defend herself from her husband who often beat her.

In the incident that took place in Segamat, Johor, on Tuesday, the couple got into an argument after the husband asked for money, allegedly to buy drugs.

The husband had also accused his wife of having an affair with another man.

When the woman refused to give him the money, the man allegedly hit, slapped and pointed a parang to her neck, threatening to chop her head off.

The victim parried the blows and struggled with the suspect before managing to wrest the parang to defend herself.

Neighbours who heard her cries called the police.

"The 42-year-old man, who has a police record related to drugs in the past, was arrested on the scene," said Johor police chief Supt Mohd Kamil Sukarmi.
