JOHOR BARU - An Indonesian construction worker was killed on the spot when a floor of a high-rise condominium block tower in Permas Jaya collapsed.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Sulaiman Salleh said Ainur Rasyid, 38, and a co-worker were checking the concrete flooring at about 1.25am yesterday when the floor above them gave way suddenly.
"His friend managed to escape but Ainur was unlucky. The rubble fell on him," ACP Sulaiman said in a statement.
He said there were two Myanmar nationals and eight Indonesians working on the site but they were unhurt, adding that other workers rushed to the scene to extricate Ainur from the rubble but he was pronounced dead by an assistant medical officer from Sultan Ismail Hospital who arrived at the scene several minutes later.
"Police officers interviewed the workers who confirmed there was nobody else trapped under the rubble," he said, adding that work at the site was from 11am to 2am daily.
He said Ainur possessed a valid work permit and passport and the Indonesian Consulate here had been informed about the incident.
ACP Sulaiman said initial investigation showed there were no criminal elements in the case and it had been classified as sudden death.
