Man weighing 150kg dies of suffocation

KUALA LUMPUR: Fourteen firefighters were roped in to transport a man weighing 150kg from his apartment unit in Desa Pandan to Hospital Kuala Lumpur (HKL) after he suffered breathing difficulties.

City Fire and Rescue Department chief operations officer Samsol Maarif Saibani said the firefighters were deployed to the home of Mohd Hafis Soleman, 15 minutes after a report was received at about 1.45pm Thursday.

HKL had enlisted their help to bring down the 29-year-old man from his apartment unit on the fourth floor and into the ambulance.

Despite their best efforts, Mohd Hafis was pronounced dead at the hospital at about 3pm.

"He had difficulties in breathing and could not walk. Firefighters and medical personnel rushed him to HKL for treatment.

"However, he was declared dead from suffocation," Samsol said when contacted here Thursday.
