Singapore's smallest telco M1 has posted a 19.4 per cent jump in third-quarter net profit to $39.6 million.
The healthy boost in the bottom line was largely thanks to more customers and higher revenue from mobile data.
However, revenue for the period ended Sept 30 fell 5.1 per cent to $247 million.
M1 has added 73,000 mobile and 33,000 fibre customers in the financial year to date, bringing its mobile customer base to 2.13 million and fibre customer base to 77,000 as at the end of last month.
M1's mobile market, which is core to its business, has remained steady. Its overall market share stood at 25.6 per cent as at July, a smidgen less than 26.1 per cent in the last quarter of last year.
M1 said the majority of its customers are now on smartphones.
This meant that "data usage continued to grow and revenue from non-voice services for the quarter rose 4.3 percentage points year on year to 42.3 per cent of revenue", said a media statement from the telco on Monday.
Data services revenue went up to 41 per cent, from 37.4 per cent previously.
The bulk came from mobile data consumption, which rose to 28.2 per cent compared with 23.7 per cent nine months earlier.
