PETALING JAYA - In a strange twist, the mother of the woman who was bound in chains has come forward to admit that she chained her daughter.

Serdang OCPD Asst Comm Megat Mohamad Aminuddin Megat Alias said the mother had lodged a police report at around 3.15pm on Monday.

"She claims her daughter was a drunk and she chained her out of concern for her safety.

"We have not found any criminal element in the case so far and the woman was unhurt," he said when contacted on Tuesday.

ACP Megat Mohamad Aminuddin said with this new development, police consider the case to be solved.

It was reported that passers-by spotted a woman bound in metal chains and locks squatting by the roadside, near some parked cars near the Serdang Raya 3k complex on Sunday.

The woman, in her 20s, was later freed by a team of police and firemen.

The Star tracked down the woman's address to a house about five minutes drive from where she was found.

However, the house was empty and looked abandoned. Some of its window panes were broken and the front yard was overgrown with weed.

A neighbour, who recognised a picture of the woman said she was a drunk and was once found walking naked in the streets after drinking one night.
