Apple spruces up MacBook Air with more powerful processors

Apple has updated the MacBook Air, giving the lightweight notebook faster processors at lower prices.

According to Apple, the MacBook Air comes with the fourth-generation Intel Core i5 and Core i7 processors that work in with OS X Mavericks. Prices start at US$899 (S$1,129).

The 13-inch Air has a battery life of up to 12 hours, while the 11-inch variant can go up to 9 hours.

11-inch MacBook Air:
- 1.4 GHz processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.7 GHz
- 4GB of memory
- With 128GB of flash storage (starting at US$899)
- With 256GB of flash storage (starting at US$1,099)

13-inch MacBook Air:
- 1.4 GHz processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 2.7 GHz
- 4GB of memory
- With 128GB of flash storage (starting at US$999)
- With 256GB of flash storage (starting at US$1,199)

Configure-to-order options include:
- 1.7 GHz Intel Core i7 processor with Turbo Boost speeds up to 3.3 GHz
- Up to 8GB of memory
- Up to 512GB flash storage

"Flash storage makes MacBook Air extremely responsive, whether you are working on presentations, streaming movies and music from iTunes or organising your photo library," Apple said.

The new MacBook Air is available via Apple's online store.
