BB10 gets Nato nod of approval

BlackBerry is about to be sold but the part of the company that is still going strong is the BlackBerry Enterprise Service 10 (BES 10). This provides secure e-mail service, a traditional strength of BlackBerry.

The North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (Nato) has given the okay to use BES 10 on BB 10 smartphones for classified communications up to "Restricted" level.

It means that companies and organisations that still use BES for confidential communications may not have to look for an alternative.

BlackBerry's secure e-mail service has been its most valued feature. Its security wall was so unbreakable that some governments have tried to force it to give up its secrets.

The Nato decision is an important confidence booster for a company on the ropes.

Notwithstanding the emergence of free e-mail services for smartphones, a BlackBerry is still the best portable and secure e-mail device around.
