Be charmed by Onkyo headphones

Onkyo is better known for its audio equipment than for headphones.

Yet its recent foray into headsets has produced a pleasant surprise.

The ES on-ear headphone is not only elegantly constructed, but it also sounds very good.

In fact, it is better than some of the more expensive headsets in the market.

Made of brushed and burnished aluminium, the headset has folding ear cups and detachable connectors.

It offers a comfortable fit - not too heavy and not too pressing on the ears.

There are two versions of the ES series, one with audiophile-grade copper cable with gold connectors and the other with standard cable.

The higher-end model (ES-HF300) is worth the extra $60 as it has clearer detail and channel separation.

I have always believed that higher-quality cables and connectors can make a difference to sound quality, but seldom is it so evident and discernible as in the case of the Onkyo headphones.

How much: ES-HF300 ($299), ES-FC300 ($239)
