Guess who's buying the iPhone 5C?

The Apple iPhone 5C may not be the "cheap iPhone" that most people had expected, but there are still people who chose this model instead of the more advanced iPhone 5S.

Kantar Worldpanel released a report Monday which offers some insights into the demographics of this group of consumers. According to Kantar's Dominic Sunnebo, almost half of the iPhone 5C owners switched from competing brands LG and Samsung.

In the report, he believes that the iPhone 5C "appeals to a broader audience than Apple usually attracts". For example, the biggest demand for the iPhone 5C in the US comes from lower income households.

The Apple iPhone 5S continues to be the more popular choice for most smartphone buyers. The report also states that the iPhone 5S outsold the iPhone 5C three to one in Britain.

We reviewed the iPhone 5C in October and feel that it is an an excellent device for first-time smartphone buyers or iPhone 3GS/4/4S users who are upgrading to their next iPhone, but do not need the latest and greatest from Apple and appreciate a bit of funky colours thrown in to the mix.
