A spoof advertisement circulating online promoting the iOS 7's waterproofing features has resulted in some gullible iPhone user testing their devices - and destroying their phones in the process.
According to an article in pocket-lint.com, the advert seemed to have originated from the controversial 4Chan forum.
The poster read: "Update to iOS 7 and become waterproof."
"In an emergency, a smart-switch will shut off the phone's power supply and corresponding components to prevent any damage to your iPhone's delicate circuitry," it explained.
After the advert was shared on social media sites, angry complaints soon emerged online from those apparently fooled by the prank.
One person posted on Twitter: "iOS 7 isn't waterproof!! Now my phone's at the bottom of the river."
