iOS 8 may have split-screen multitasking capability

The long awaited split-screen multitasking function may be coming to an iPad near you.

According to Mark Gurman from 9to5mac.com, this feature, which allows two iPad applications to run simultaneously, will be one of the key changes in iOS 8. Currently, the iPad can only run one app per view.

This multitasking feature is already available on Microsoft's Surface line of tablets, making it useful for users who constantly have to toggle between two apps while working.

Gurman is known for his accurate news on Apple, from its manpower hirings to pricing information.

In his article, Gurman also said that the multitasking feature is designed with the 9.7-inch iPad display in mind in landscape mode, although it is unclear if the feature will work for the iPad mini.

Apple is expected to announce the new iOS 8 in June, during its Apple's annual Worldwide Developers Conference at San Francisco.
