More natural viewing with this TV set

Sony Electronics has launched two 4K Ultra HDTV models, the 55-inch Bravia KD-55X9004A and the 65-inch Bravia KD-65X9004A.

Each TV set has eight million pixels - or four times the resolution of a full HDTV - to deliver the most immersive home-entertainment experience, said Sony.

The models boast Triluminos display technology to produce rich, authentic colours with subtle tones and hard-to-reproduce natural shades of red and green.

They even use QD Vision's Colour IQ 1 optical component to achieve a wider colour gamut and provide a far more natural and vivid viewing experience with a heightened sense of depth.

As there are no affordable 4K movies in the market, Sony has introduced "Mastered in 4K" Blu-ray movies, which can be played on standard Blu-ray players to get a glimpse of what 4K technology has to offer.

The Amazing Spider-Man, Total Recall (2012), Ghostbusters, Battle: Los Angeles, The Karate Kid (2010), Taxi Driver, Angels & Demons, The Other Guys and Spider-Man (2002) are some of the titles being offered. They have been remastered in 4K, but have been down-sampled to 2K to fit on a standard Blu-ray disc.

The movies may not offer true 4K content, but they have a higher resolution, more detail and an extended colour space.

The TV sets also come with built-in 4K X-Reality Pro technology to upscale movies on the fly. This technology analyses and enhances movies, including DVD, Blu-ray and even YouTube videos, upgrading them to 4K.

To complete the viewing experience, the TV sets use Magnetic Fluid technology to create "damperless" speaker structures that produce high-fidelity sound while keeping the design slim.

Users can directly access the Internet from the TV sets as they come with built-in Wi-Fi. A one-touch mirroring feature will let users share content from their smartphone wirelessly.

The KD-55X9004A retails at S$6,999, while the KD-65X9004A retails at S$9,999, according to Sony's website.
