Sony describes the α7R as the world's smallest and lightest full-frame camera that uses interchangeable lenses.

This mirrorless camera features a stunning 36.4-megapixel full-frame Exmor CMOS image sensor in a tough magnesium alloy body that is supposed to be dust- and moisture-resistant. It weighs just 407g (body only) while Sony's flagship full-frame DSLR α99 tips the scales at 812g.

The α7R has a built-in electronic viewfinder with a high resolution of 2,359,000 dots and a tiltable 3-inch display with 1,230,000 dots.
