German camera brand Leica has launched the Leica C, the first model in its new line of digital compact cameras.
Featuring a high-performance Leica DC Vario-Summicron 6-42.8mm f/2-5.9 ASPH zoom lens and an exceptionally large sensor with a resolution of 12MP, the Leica C "guarantees images that are particularly rich in detail", said the company.
The camera's fast-zoom feature is also ideal for an almost infinite number of photographic situations and delivers even under unfavourable light conditions.
Leica said the new camera is the brand's first compact camera to feature an integrated Wi-Fi and near-field-communication module, for the wireless transmission of image data to smartphones and tablet PCs.
It also offers a wide range of camera functions, in-camera processing options and an intuitive, simple handling concept for flexible and spontaneous photography.
The Leica C's elegant appearance is the work of Audi Design, which was also commissioned to develop a range of camera accessories to go with it.
The camera is available in two colours, light gold or dark red, and has a full-HD video function.
The Leica C will be available at Leica stores in ION Orchard, Mandarin Gallery and Raffles Hotel Arcade from today, at a recommended retail price of $990.
Accessories such as the C-Pouch and C-Snap will be available from December.
