The latest Viber 4.0 version, which can be used in both iPhone and Android systems, comes with two new functions - sticker market and push to talk.
The sticker market offers a collection of stickers, some of which are free, while the new push to talk feature offers instant voice messaging in real time.
Talmon Marco, chief executive officer of Viber, said the Viber push-to-talk system was significantly better than those offered by other messaging apps. Typically, push to talk is a four-step process - record, send, download and play. However, Viber does all four at the same time. This way, the average response time for a 15-second message is 4 to 6 seconds, rather than 45-60 seconds.
"This version of Viber is all about expressing in more fun, exciting ways. The new sticker market offers over 1,000 unique, fun, expressive characters, many of which were designed specifically for our users in Asia. We are the first of the major messaging services to add live push to talk, streamed instantly between users. No sending, no waiting," Marco said.
"This is the most exciting release we've had for Viber since we launched the platform. Today's updated version brings a vast new range of features and functionality to Viber."
