As with most glitzy awards ceremonies, the best moments did not occur during acceptance speeches, invigorating as they might be.
At the 33rd Hong Kong Film Awards yesterday evening, held to honour the best in Hong Kong and Chinese cinema over the past year, all eyes were on the celebrities who went dressed to the nines, as well as comedic spontaneity at the sidelines.
The event was held at the Hong Kong Cultural Centre in Tsim Sha Tsui.

Natalie Meng Yao was not nominated in any category at the awards, but the well-endowed actress turned heads on the red carpet when she flaunted her assets in a floral pink gown.
The 32-year-old Beijing actress, known mainly for her roles in slapstick comedies such as My Wife Is A Gambling Maestro (2008), boasts an enviable 34D chest. No wonder she told Sina Entertainment that she "felt a lack of security" as cameras snapped away.
Another female star, Hong Kong-based China actress Angelababy (real name Angela Yeung), 25, came across as far more poised and elegant in her nude, cleavage-baring get-up. She and actor Nick Cheung were later voted Best Dressed by the audience.
Now for the plain weird.
Veteran comedienne Teresa Mo, 54, one of the night's hosts, looked like she had white leaves plastered and dangling from her knee-length black dress.
As for 36-year-old singer Denise Ho, her eccentric orange outfit resembled an abstract art piece constructed out of bandages.
UH-OH, SHE SAID WHAT?
While most stars were polite and PR savvy, there were a few who left us scratching our heads with their replies.
When quizzed by TVB television reporters if she was happy that her co-stars in drug-themed film The White Storm (referring to Hong Kong actors Louis Koo and Lau Ching-Wan) were nominated for Best Actor, Thai transgender actress Nong Poy, 27, replied in halting English: "Ah, Nick (Cheung), he totally deserves it."
Reporters laughed uncomfortably and quickly changed the topic. Nong had made a glaring mistake - Cheung wasn't nominated for that role. But he was up for Best Actor for another action movie, Unbeatable.
